Super Crusty Sunday #2

Smack in the middle of todays' CRUSTY TRINITY, we have DEVIATED INSTINCT, the soundtrack to my life as an *on-the-road* crusty societal drop-out. For the bast part of 3 years I was never without my tape of "Rock 'n' Roll Comformity" backed with "Gutteral Breath". It was a legit shop-robbed cassette, which also featured the "Welcome To The Orgy" ep. I lived, breathed etc D.I for such a long time, that singer Leggo was once moved to ask me to "speak about something else, for fuck sake". Huh - rock stars - such fickle bastards! :-)
It's hard to pin-point what exactly it is about this band that hooked itself into my psyche, but once it had, it never let go. Dark and at times unsettling in their execution, the songs appeal to the part of me that is forever lost on the Yorkshire Moors in 1975. Ok - it was only for a hour, but I was only 5 years old, and it was twilight. Strangely, that is still my favorite time of day. The track " Scarecrow" also tapped into the genetic memory we all have, namely that scarecrows are somehow evil. (They are!!). I played said track to my tatoo friend and he did me a tat of the most evil scarecrow - a charm to protect me maybe? Whatever - here for your listening pleasure we have a compilation of tracks that appeared on various releases between 1986 and 1990. The final two tracks are actually not D.I. at all, it seems, but were recorder by Leggo with a Birmingham band called ACRASY. It won't spoil your enjoyment however.
Boastful Fact: Leggo's post D.I. band "Filthkick" ( did a split lp with E.N.T.) played at my 21st birthday party!

Absolutely great post! I feel much the same way about "R&R Conformity"-- it should never be far from one's reach. Good to see you're still around-- I thought you'd vanished for a while there.

Cheers!
